About the Keswick Campaign

Keswick and District Fair Trade Campaign has been active since 2003. Keswick is now recognised as one of the country's leading centres of Fairtrade. The town was awarded Fairtrade Town status in March 2005. Keswick and District Fair Trade Campaign is a founder member of Cumbria Fair Trade Network. Cumbria received Fairtrade County status in March 2006. There are now 19 Fairtrade communities in the county and over 800 businesses supporting Fairtrade.

Who we are

We are a campaign group who encourage:

  • Residents and visitors to buy FAIRTRADE products
  • Retailers and distributors to sell FAIRTRADE products
  • B&B, guest houses, hotels, self-catering properties and Youth Hostels to serve FAIRTRADE products to their guests
  • Restaurants and cafés to serve FAIRTRADE products to their visitors
  • Churches and community organisations to use FAIRTRADE products at their functions
  • Businesses to provide Fairtrade products for their staff
  • Coffee Beans
  • The buying of locally produced products
  • An awareness and understanding of Trade Justice issues through our Trade Justice Group

We campaign by

  • Holding special promotional events
  • Producing regular publicity, including press releases, articles and advertisements
  • Providing information about Fairtrade, including links to other Fair Trade sites
  • Developing a friendship link with FAIRTRADE coffee producers in Choche, Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee

You will find no tourist town in England more committed to Fairtrade than Keswick, with over 90 guest houses, hotels and B&Bs and 50 cafés and restaurants offering Fairtrade products.
